One of the earliest and most authoritative versions of the Tarot de Marseille, printed by the master Jean Dodal in Lyon around 1701–1715. The deck belongs to the so-called Type I of the Marseille tradition and is made using woodcut with stencil colouring in the characteristic red, blue, yellow and flesh tones. Dodal's Major Arcana stand out for their archaic graphics and Old French captions, many of which preserve the spelling of their time. For researchers it is a key source used to reconstruct the classic canon of the Tarot de Marseille.
