Step 1. Frame your question
A clear question is half the success. Avoid yes-or-no questions if you want a deep reading. It is better to ask 'What is important for me to understand about…?' or 'How can I develop this relationship?'. If you do need a short answer, there is a separate format — the Yes or No reading.
Step 2. Shuffle the deck
As you shuffle, focus on your question. The shuffling method does not matter — calm attention does. When you feel ready, stop and cut the deck. Many readers treat this moment as a tuning-in: you 'link' your question with the spread.
Step 3. Draw cards into a spread
A spread is a layout where each position has its own meaning. Beginners can use a three-card spread of 'past — present — future' or 'situation — advice — outcome'. Complex spreads like the Celtic Cross are best learned later.
Step 4. Account for the card's position
A card can fall upright or reversed. Upright usually reveals the direct, overt meaning; reversed shows a weakened, inner or opposite one. On each card page we give both meanings, plus the sense in love and work.
Step 5. Build a story
Do not interpret cards in isolation — see how they connect. The suits hint at the area (Wands — energy and affairs, Cups — feelings, Swords — thoughts and conflict, Pentacles — money and daily life), while the Major Arcana point to big themes and lessons. Weave the hints into a coherent narrative.
Trust your intuition
